God orchestrates, we trust.
"I meet a lot of people so this might not be you. but are you the man that mentioned he and his wife were in the process of adoption? I have a friend looking for a family for their unborn baby." This is the email we received a few weeks back. We didn’t know it at the time but this short email was about to change our lives.
We immediately replied, not knowing any additional information but wanting to help connect her friend with resources for making an adoption plan. We waited to see if we would hear anything back. 10 days past between messages. We received a second message that explained how far along she was and she wanted us to contact her directly. Attached was the birth mom’s name and number.
We didn't know if it was kosher in the adoption world to do things this way so we decided it was best to leave it at resources and prayers until we could speak with our Adoption counselor.
I heard back that same day from our wonderful counselor with Catholic Charities. We found out that we were welcome to speak with the mother and that plenty of adoptions take place this way. She encouraged us to reach out if we felt comfortable with the situation.
We did. Personally, for me, I felt oddly calm about the circumstances. It’s not a perfect situation, far from it. This sort of thing could never be. A mother is doing the impossible, out of love for her child, to entrust their care to near strangers. The magnitude of this is overwhelming and gut wrenching and harrowing. There is a possibility for some challenges as we move forward, but we know we are being called to say yes, to give our fiat to God.
Last week the birth mom selected us to be the adoptive parents of her baby. We are already so in love with this little unborn human.
This is a private adoption and so we will have some legal fees to cover & will also assume the cost of the birth mother's essential needs.
When we started this process we thought that we wouldn't be bringing a baby home for 18 to 24 months! We never expected to have TWO under TWO, but we are thrilled!
We are doing one more fundraiser to help mitigate the cost of the legal fees. If you would like to help support this adoption there is the pretty sweet coffee mug available! It dons the same Frassati quote as the T-shirt. Check it out, here!
Verso L’alto, to the heights!
More important than your financial support are your prayers. Please, pray for the birthmother as she enters the last stage of pregnancy, for a healthy baby and safe delivery for them both. Please pray for our family as we grow and navigate this new stage of parenthood!
